Beam will be hosting hosting Richard Davey in conversation with Beam director Jonathan Casciani on the work of Anthony Whishaw RA to coincide with the current exhibition of the artist's work: Line, Movement, Space - Paintings and works on paper from the 50s and 60s.

A contemporary of artists Frank Auerbach and Bridget Riley, Whishaw is an exceptional artist of his generation and one of Britain's finest draughtsmen. The exhibition brings together a selection of drawings from the artist’s sketchbooks in the late 50s and two of his most significant paintings from that period.

Richard Davey and Jonathan Casciani will tell the story of making the 2019 book ‘Works on Paper’ the definitive book on the artists drawings that was published to coincide with the artists 90th year and his exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London.

Following in the Italian tradition of 'Aperitivo', Beam have invited their friends and collaborators from Ambigu Bakery in Nottingham to provide a selected of delicious dishes to help yourself to made from local, organic and biodynamic ingredients. Bradley will be selecting a stella selection of natural wines with Joel from Wrights Wines.

For those that like to eat early food will be ready from 6.30pm and will also be served after the talk finishes at 8.15.

- This ticket is for both the talk and food only, there will be a pay bar on the night.

About Anthony Whishaw RA

Educated at Chelsea School of Art and The Royal College of Art, the artist has spent a lifetime developing a distinctive vision, uncompromised by commercial concerns and undistracted by an ever-changing art world. Throughout his 70 year career his work has covered many themes, including line, movement, space, memory and shifts between being both abstract and figurative.

He was elected a Member of The London Group in 1979, a Royal Academician in 1989 and a Member of the Royal West of England Academy in 1992.

‘Anthony Whishaw’s work exudes his deep love of life and curiosity for the world around him. Through his works on paper, this insightful and beautiful book captures the expression of this love in the intimate act of drawing.’
